Dr. Olson uses a delicate approach for his blepharoplasty patients, involving a very thin incision along the eyelid rim line or natural upper eyelid crease. He performs lower eyelid surgery by placing incisions either along the lower lash line or inside the lower eyelids. The goal is to make any incisions as unnoticeable as possible. If your upper eyelid sagging is significant, you may benefit from a brow lift instead of, or in addition to, eyelid surgery.
Eyelid surgery may be performed on its own or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures and treatments, including facelift, injectable fillers, or BOTOX® Cosmetic. How will I know what my eyes will look like following eyelid surgery?
You can view before-and-after photos to obtain an idea of the results Dr. Olson has achieved for other patients like you. In addition, during your consultation Dr. Olson can provide additional before and after cases and talk with you about the results he thinks are possible given your facial anatomy and personal goals. He can assist you with setting reasonable expectations for the outcome of your procedure.
How long will my eyelid surgery results last?
The results of eyelid surgery are very long lasting. Patients ordinarily only need 1 eyelid surgery in a lifetime. There can be continued aging of the skin in this area but proper use of sunscreen, medical-grade skin care and BOTOX® Cosmetic can preserve the results from your surgical procedure.
What can I expect from my eyelid surgery recovery?
Choosing a board-certified facial plastic surgeon such as Dr. Olson helps to ensure that your recovery goes well. Dr. Olson will provide you with post-operative instructions to decrease recovery time and create results you can love. Avoiding certain medications that can increase bleeding and bruising before and after surgery is very important. If you are a smoker, you will be advised to quit. Smoking will affect both the results of surgery and the appearance of the eyelids over time. Discomfort in the first few days can be relieved with medication, and swelling and bruising can be minimized with the use of a cold compress. Dr. Olson recommends that his patients allow 7 to 10 days for rest, at which time swelling and bruising should begin to subside.
