How FUE Compares to FUT
The NeoGraft system involves a type of hair replacement procedure called follicular unit extraction (FUE). A follicular unit is a natural grouping of 1 to 4 hairs. While the older, more invasive follicular unit transplantation (FUT) technique, often called the strip method, involves harvesting follicles from a surgically removed strip of the scalp, the FUE technique removes the follicles individually, in their follicular units. The strip method requires staples or stitches along the incision, which leaves a long scar. FUE does not require stitches, and the resulting scars are tiny, inconspicuous dots.
What Is a NeoGraft Hair Transplant?
A NeoGraft hair transplant is an in-office FUE procedure. The hair in the donor site is trimmed very short, and the scalp is numbed with a local anesthetic. We then harvest the individual grafts. The NeoGraft handpiece automates harvesting of the donor follicles and creates grafts of uniform diameter and depth. Once enough grafts have been collected, the balding area is numbed and each graft is meticulously transplanted to its new location.

When can I wash my hair after hair transplant surgery?
In general, it is safe to gently rinse your hair 48 hours after the FUE procedure. We recommend diluting baby shampoo in a container filled with warm –not hot– water and pouring it slowly over your head. Follow with clean water in the same careful manner until the scalp is completely rinsed, and softly pat dry with a clean towel. After your procedure, you will be given specific after-care instructions to follow.
How long is recovery after NeoGraft hair transplant?
Some patients return to work the day after their procedure, while many take a few days off. Recovery rates depend on the number of grafts placed and other individual factors.
Will my hair fill in right after the hair transplant procedure?
While recovery is quick after a FUE hair transplant, results take some time to develop. In most cases, the hair falls out of the transplanted follicles within 2 to 3 weeks, and new hair grows in over approximately 4 to 6 months.
Can NeoGraft be used for women?
For women whose hair loss is not due to a treatable medical condition, NeoGraft may be an excellent option for filling in thinning hair along the hairline or on the top of the head. Hair transplant can also be used to fill in obvious scars along the hairline caused by cosmetic surgery.
