Why Natural-Looking Facelift Results Are the New Norm

Middle aged man with youthful-looking face

Many men and women who come in for a consultation for a facelift at our Tucson, Arizona, practice are afraid of looking unnatural after the surgery. They worry that they’ll end up with the tightly pulled skin once notoriously associated with the procedure. Luckily, the facelift has come a long way since the 20th century, and today’s techniques allow plastic surgeons to achieve results that were unattainable in the early days of the procedure.

In this blog post, let’s explore a few reasons why today’s facelift is better than ever and why there’s no reason to expect anything less than natural-looking facelift results from your surgery.

Addressing Deeper Tissues

In the past, facelifts focused primarily on tightening the skin, typically pulling it laterally toward the scalp to smooth it out. Because the skin sags faster than the underlying tissues, surgeons had to pull this superficial layer excessively tight to make results as long-lasting as possible. This produced the infamous “wind tunnel” look.

However, today’s advanced facelift techniques work on a much deeper level, achieving longer-lasting results without having to dramatically tighten the skin. The underlying muscles and other tissues are lifted and repositioned,  and the skin is redraped and trimmed as needed. This reduces wrinkles and creates a smooth, lifted look while providing foundational correction to keep the skin and facial features looking natural and unaltered.

Extending Your Facelift Results

Injectables and other minimally invasive or noninvasive procedures can keep skin smooth and firm without the need for additional surgery. The growing number of nonsurgical approaches to rejuvenation makes it easier to extend your facelift results without having additional surgeries. A few examples include:

  • Dermal fillers: We can replace lost volume with these injectable gels, which can fill in lines and create plump, youthful cheeks.
  • PRP Microneedling: Encourages collagen production and healthy cell regeneration, providing ongoing rejuvenation of the skin.
  • BOTOX® Cosmetic: This injectable treatment can balance the youthfulness in your lower face with anti-aging effects around the eyes and forehead.

Adaptable Approach

Surgeons have developed multiple ways to correct facial aging that can be adapted according to your unique needs. The facelift is no longer a one-size-fits-all procedure. At our practice, we perform both short scar and deep plane facelifts, depending on the amount of correction needed.

As a board-certified facial plastic surgeon, one of my priorities is determining the least invasive approach needed to meet each person’s goals. If we can successfully rejuvenate your face through a less intensive surgery—or even through nonsurgical treatments alone—I will recommend that option during your consultation.
